Pickleball Tracker ("the app") records your pickleball matches and turns them into coaching feedback. This policy explains exactly what data the app touches, where it goes, and what control you have over it.
The short version: your match history and health data live on your own devices and in your own private iCloud account. We operate no database and store no copy of your match or health data, we do not have accounts, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers. Two features send data to a server we operate — "AI coaching insights" and "Match-finished notifications" — and, separately, the app records anonymous, non-identifying usage analytics through a third-party provider to understand which features are used. All three are described in full below. Please read them.

The app has no accounts and no login. We do not collect your name or email address, and we use no advertising identifiers. We do record anonymous usage analytics — described under "Product analytics" below — but it is tied only to a random identifier generated on your device, never to your name, email, Apple ID, or the push token, and it is never used to track you across other apps or websites. The only device identifier we handle is the Apple push notification token described in the row above, which is used solely to deliver that notification to your phone.
Your match history and health-derived statistics are stored locally on your device and synchronised through Apple's CloudKit to the private database of your own iCloud account. That data is governed by Apple's privacy policy. We cannot read it, and we have no server that holds a copy. If you sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud for the app, syncing stops and your data stays on your device.
The app requests read access to your workouts, heart rate, active energy burned, heart rate variability, and sleep analysis. On Apple Watch it also writes heart rate and active energy to the workout it records for you. You grant this access per data type, and you can change or revoke it at any time in the Health app under Sharing → Apps.
Health data is used only to power the app's own statistics and coaching features. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with data brokers. The app does not provide medical advice; effort and readiness signals are shown as performance correlations, not health assessments.
When you ask for a coaching debrief or insight, the app sends a summary of your playing history to our backend, which forwards it to the Anthropic Claude API to generate the written feedback. Please read this section carefully, because it is the only case where the substance of your playing history leaves your own devices and Apple's services.
You are asked first. Before anything is sent, the app shows a disclosure screen that lists every category of data below and names Anthropic as the recipient. Nothing is transmitted unless you tap "Agree & Continue" on that screen.
What is sent: aggregated, pre-computed statistics only —
What is never sent: raw health samples. Individual heart rate readings, individual sleep records, individual workouts, your location or coordinates, and your voice recordings are never transmitted to our backend or to Anthropic.
What it is used for: this data is used for one purpose only — generating the coaching text that is returned to you. It is not used for advertising, not sold, not used to build a profile of you, and not used for any other product or purpose.
How it is handled: our backend is a stateless Cloudflare Worker. It does not write your data to any database or log it; it passes the summary to Anthropic, returns the response to your app, and retains nothing.
Our AI provider and equivalent protection: we share this summary only with Anthropic, PBC, which acts as our service provider for generating coaching feedback. Anthropic is contractually bound under its Commercial Terms of Service to provide protections for this data that are equivalent to those described in this policy: the data is processed solely to return the coaching response to you, is not used to train its models, is not sold, is not used for advertising, and is not disclosed to any further third party. We do not share your data with any other third party for any purpose.
Your choice, and how to withdraw it: these AI features are optional. If you never request a debrief or an insight, none of this data is ever sent anywhere. After you have agreed, you can withdraw your permission at any time in the app under Profile → AI Coach → AI Coaching Data Sharing. With that turned off, nothing further is sent and the app asks you again the next time you request coaching. The rest of the app works normally with AI sharing switched off.
If you score a match live on Apple Watch, the Watch app sends a short message to our notification server when the match ends so that your iPhone receives a "your match is ready to log" notification. This happens only when you use live scoring on Apple Watch. If you do not use the Watch app, nothing described in this section ever occurs.
What is sent: your iPhone's Apple push notification token (an identifier Apple issues so a notification can be routed to your device), and the scores of the match you just finished — the points for each game, when it started, how long it lasted, and the running score progression, so that tapping the notification can pre-fill the match for you.
What is never sent: your name, the names of your opponents or partners, your venue, your notes, and any health or location data. None of that is part of this message.
How it is handled: our notification server is the same stateless Cloudflare Worker described above. It holds no database and writes no logs — it forwards the message to Apple's Push Notification service, which delivers the notification to your phone, and retains nothing afterwards. The scores are used for one purpose only: filling in the notification and the match draft it opens. They are not stored by us, not analysed, not sold, and not shared with anyone other than Apple's push service for delivery.
Your choice: this message is sent only when you finish a match you have been scoring live on Apple Watch. If you log your matches on the iPhone instead, or do not use the Watch app, it never happens. Turning off notifications for Pickleball Tracker in iOS Settings → Notifications stops the notification from being delivered to your phone.
To understand which features people use and where the app can be improved, Pickleball Tracker records anonymous usage analytics through PostHog, a third-party product-analytics service. This is standard usage measurement — it is not advertising, and it is not used to track you across other apps or websites.
What is collected: events describing how you use the app — for example, that the app was opened, a match was logged (with its type, singles or doubles), the paywall was shown, a subscription plan was tapped or purchased, or an AI debrief was generated or shared — together with a few non-identifying attributes for each event (such as the plan name, or whether an action was a first for you). Each event is tagged with a random identifier the app generates on your device the first time you open it.
What is never sent: your name or email, your opponents' or partners' names, your match scores, your notes, your tags, your health data, your location, your voice notes, your Apple ID, and any advertising identifier. The analytics contain no personal content — only which features were used.
The identifier: the random analytics identifier is created by the app and is not your name, your Apple ID, your advertising identifier, or the push token described above. It exists only to group one device's events together so usage can be counted, and it is not linked to your identity.
Our analytics provider and equivalent protection: the events are sent to PostHog, Inc., which processes them on our behalf on its United States infrastructure and is bound by its Data Processing Agreement to protect this data and use it only to provide the analytics service to us. As with any internet service, PostHog receives the network request your device makes, including its IP address; it is used only to record the event and, at a coarse level, the general region it came from, and is not stored against your identity. This data is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared with any further third party.
If you record the names of opponents or partners, those names are your own match notes. They are stored with your data and, when you request AI coaching, the names of your frequent opponents and partners are included in the summary described above. If you would rather not share another person's name, use initials or a nickname instead.
Pickleball Tracker offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions. All purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your payment details. The app checks your subscription status through Apple's StoreKit and stores only whether your subscription is currently active.
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or the CCPA to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Since your data resides in your own iCloud account and we operate no database of our own, you can exercise all of these directly using the controls above. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. If you need help, contact us at the address above.
